Save the Zacks is an upcoming physics-based puzzler that I've now spend a good deal of hands-on time with. The core gameplay sees you attempting to move a handful of small creatures to teleports dotted around each level. You'll do this by messing with terrain, tilting your device to change the direction of gravity, and occasionally sacrificing a little Zack for the good of the many.

Things are almost never as simple as they first appear, and soon you'll realise that this outwardly cute game contains some genuinely shocking moments. Zacks can be incinerated, impaled, and gobbled up by a tentacled creature whose rapid movements have caused me to recoil on several occasions.

Despite the blend of cuteness and nastiness, the game never becomes annoyingly gruesome, which I think is what keeps the occasional shocks so surprising. It's still technically kid-friendly, but there's a real element of danger to its levels that kept me, a supposed adult, on edge. The soothing sound design and unassuming minimalist visuals help a lot in this regard.

And I'm not the only one singing its praises; Save the Zacks earned second place in the mobile category at The Very Big Indie Pitch during Pocket Gamer Connects London in January.

At launch, the game will offer 50 levels to work your way through, though more are set to be added over time. In the build I've been playing, there's an interesting level editor that may be added to the full release further down the line.

I think Save the Zacks will surprise and impress a great many people if they're willing to give it a go. It's a smart, well-presented puzzler with great controls and a nice amount of strangeness to offer. The game's set to launch later this year on both the App Store and Google Play.
In the mood for a great puzzler?
If you track livetweets or other social media during game events, you may recall the excitement generated during Sony's E3 press conference over Shawn Layden's shout-out to Vib Ribbon.

Some interpreted this namedrop as a hint towards a possible re-release of the classic PSX rhythm game.

Sadness and disappointment permeated the niche corners of the Sony fanbase when that announcement never came.

Yet according to Layden, President and CEO of SCEA, your voices weren't unheard. Vib Ribbon is making a comeback after all.

Vib Ribbon hits PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, tomorrow in North America, Latin America, and Japan, with a European release in tow for next week. A price has not yet been announced.

For the unfamiliar, Vib Ribbon is a trippy, vector art music game from 1999 that saw more love as a cult hit rather than a mainstream success.

An official release never even made it to North American markets.

Vib Ribbon's designer, Masaya Matsuura, is perhaps most well known for his work on PaRappa the Rapper and UmJammer Lammy.

These earlier rhythm games for the PSX saw more widespread popularity than the sketchy, black and white line art and the song-induced shape-shifting rabbit of Vib Ribbon.

Despite Vib Ribbon's lack of financial success, though, Layden believes it "really captured the crazy that PlayStation was keen to offer" in its earliest days, something Sony is "continu[ing] now with [their] outreach to the innovative and indie game community."

According to Layden, "Sometimes games like Vib Ribbon require backing and belief that do not comport with the marketing wisdom of the day, or the forecasted financial upside. Sometimes you get behind a project because, well, you gotta believe."

You can read more about Vib Ribbon's early history, and why Sony has decided to revive it, in Layden's blog post here.
That th' unexperient gave the tempter place,The Lark Burying Her Father

Konami released a new installment in the popular Bomberman franchise yesterday with Taisen! Bomberman. It's only available in Japan for now. It was announced way back in october for the series' 30th anniversary.

Taisen! Bomberman features an online multiplayer mode with up to 4 players and is still based on the same, timeless concept of placing bombs in your friends' faces. It's out now on iOS and Android in Japan as a Free-to-play app.

It's also cross-platform, meaning that you'll be able to play against iOS or Android players.

It's not the first Bomberman to appear in Japan as Bomberman Online was also released but subsequently removed from the App Store.

Let's hope this one will come west so that we can finally have Bomberman on the go.
"You say you think that Dick can be cured.
