It's us again! You remember: the show where we prattle on about phone games and that. Don't worry, just hit play and it'll all come flooding back to you like a terrible nightmare. This week's catch-up episode sees James and Matthew covering the Apple Arcade and Google Play Pass subscription services. Who will win, and either way, do we lose?

They also review the controversial Mario Kart Tour on mobile, and the much lauded Link's Awakening remake on the Switch.
Download episode 496:
(right click to save-as, left click to play)

A false tale often betrays itself.

TapStar is a recently released action game from indie developer iWinner Studios that's currently available for both iOS and Android. It will see players controlling a starfish that's somehow capable of firing projectiles from within itself.

It looks to be a very straightforward action game where you'll be tasked with blasting your way through endless waves of enemy jellyfish, squids and crabs. TapStar also calls back to the earlier days of touch screen mobile gaming by using tilt controls to move and dodge enemy attacks.
Meteorfall: Krumit’s Tale review - “I want to rage-quit, but ooh, a shiny…”
That means you'll be tilting to roll and tapping to fire back at your foes. To make the game a little trickier, you'll have limited space to roll within and it's also possible to fall off the ledge to a game over. So you can't simply roll for eternity to avoid enemy attacks, you'll need to be a little more careful with your dodging.

The Two Travelers and the Axe
The Wolf and the Fox"Well, all I hope," said Miss Cornelia calmly, "is that when I'm dead nobody will call me `our departed sister.' I took a scunner at this sister-and-brothering business five years ago when there was a travelling evangelist holding meetings at the Glen. I hadn't any use for him from the start. I felt in my bones that there was something wrong with him. And there was. Mind you, he was pretending to be a Presbyterian--PresbyTARian, HE called it--and all the time he was a Methodist. He brothered and sistered everybody. He had a large circle of relations, that man had. He clutched my hand fervently one night, and said imploringly, `My DEAR sister Bryant, are you a Christian?' I just looked him over a bit, and then I said calmly, `The only brother I ever had, MR. Fiske, was buried fifteen years ago, and I haven't adopted any since. As for being a Christian, I was that, I hope and believe, when you were crawling about the floor in petticoats.' THAT squelched him, believe ME. Mind you, Anne dearie, I'm not down on all evangelists. We've had some real fine, earnest men, who did a lot of good and made the old sinners squirm. But this Fiske-man wasn't one of them. I had a good laugh all to myself one evening. Fiske had asked all who were Christians to stand up. _I_ didn't, believe me! I never had any use for that sort of thing. But most of them did, and then he asked all who wanted to be Christians to stand up. Nobody stirred for a spell, so Fiske started up a hymn at the top of his voice. Just in front of me poor little Ikey Baker was sitting in the Millison pew. He was a home boy, ten years old, and Millison just about worked him to death. The poor
"Oh, well, Anne, dearie," said Miss Cornelia, nodding sagely "that is all as it may be. You and I have done our part and we must leave the rest to Higher Hands."

Updated 22nd December, 10:53 AM: Just in time for Christmas, it's time to enjoy a large-scale pixellated Pinball experience as Snowball! releases on mobile.
Grab the game on the App Store for £1.49/$1.99, or on Google Play for a similar price.

Our regulars might chuckle at this one but I simply couldn't pass it up as Pixeljam's Snowball! hits iOS and Android on December 22nd.

If there's two things I love it's Pinball and pixel art and boy-oh-boy do we have a game full of it here. Far larger than a normal table, you launch snowballs out into the world and watch as they ricochet around, gathering points like there's no tomorrow.

What's so striking about this game in particular is that it's cleverly laid out. The board is a mountain, the paddles are all wooden and operated by tiny folks, and in some areas there are some kinds of mini-games that you can take part in.

So take a look at the trailer below and keep an eye and an ear out for its release. This one's certainly going to be a must-have mobile game for those arduous journeys.
